Private Label Ceramics: How to Create a Product Line Under Your Own Brand

In a market where differentiation determines who thrives and who fades into the background, the product alone is no longer enough.

Brand identity, visual experience, and the coherence of every detail shape how customers perceive you. This is precisely where custom-branded ceramics, what the industry calls private label ceramics, become a first-order strategic tool.

At Graupera, we have been manufacturing ceramics in Breda, Catalonia, for over 60 years, at the heart of a centuries-old pottery tradition. It is a process we carry out regularly with brands from very different sectors, from hospitality to cosmetics. We have watched the concept of white-label ceramics evolve from a simple matter of printing a logo to a comprehensive project involving design, functionality, and brand identity.

What exactly is Private Label in ceramics?

When we talk about private label ceramics, we mean pieces manufactured by a specialised producer (such as Graupera) but marketed under the client’s brand. This can range from a custom dinnerware collection for a restaurant chain to gourmet packaging for a food brand, or decorative vessels for a premium cosmetics firm.

The key difference from co-branding is that in private label, the manufacturer’s name does not appear anywhere on the product. The client has full control over identity: shapes, colours, glazes, packaging, and labelling. In co-branding, both names coexist on the product, which can be valuable when the manufacturer’s reputation adds prestige in the sector.

The process: from briefing to delivery

A private label ceramics project follows well-defined stages that we have refined over decades of collaboration with brands worldwide. After more than sixty years manufacturing ceramics, we know that every project has different needs, and the process adapts accordingly:

Briefing and needs analysis. The client presents their vision: the intended use of the piece, the context it will operate in, the volume required, and the desired visual identity. We assess technical feasibility and propose solutions.

Design and prototyping. Our team develops shapes, selects glazes, and works on textures. If a new mould is needed, we create it from scratch at our Atelier Graupera. Every prototype is validated with the client before moving forward.

Technical validation and testing. This includes thermal resistance testing, glaze stability, migration control for food safety compliance, and dimensional accuracy checks. For industrial clients, we verify compatibility with automatic filling lines and closure systems.

Production and quality control. Every piece undergoes checks at all stages: material selection, firing, finishing, and final validation. We operate under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications.

Logistics and delivery. We label with EAN codes when required, offer zero-plastic packaging, and adapt packaging to the client’s distribution channel.

Minimum order quantities: a manufacturer’s perspective

One of the most common questions is how many units are needed to launch a private label line. The answer depends on the level of customisation. For existing shapes with a custom glaze or corporate colour, minimums can be relatively accessible (starting from a few hundred units per reference). When new moulds and exclusive forms are involved, minimums increase because the mould development needs to be amortised. In every case, the required volume is far lower than most clients expect.

Which sectors use ceramic Private Label?

The versatility of ceramics makes private label a cross-sector proposition:

HORECA and hospitality. Hotel chains and restaurants seeking exclusive dinnerware to reinforce their identity. Our StoneHeart PLUS+ range, with zero porosity and impact resistance, is built for intensive daily service.

Retail and homeware. Kitchen and home brands looking for refractory terracotta collections or premium tableware under their own label. Ready-to-sell labelling with EAN codes simplifies point-of-sale management.

Food industry and gourmet packaging. Ceramic containers with dimensional precision for automated production lines. Zero porosity ensures food preservation and prevents contaminant migration.

Cosmetics, candles, and premium decor. Pieces with high-end finishes (signature glazes, ultra-fine textures) that elevate perceived product value compared to plastic or glass.

Why choose a European manufacturer?

Partnering with a custom ceramic manufacturer based in Europe offers tangible advantages: direct process control, full material traceability, genuine food-safety and environmental certifications, shorter response times, and the ability to visit the factory and participate in development. Proximity also simplifies communication and reduces logistical risk.

Private label ceramics is not simply putting a logo on a generic product. It is a collaborative project where the manufacturer contributes technical knowledge, material expertise, and production capacity, while the client brings the vision, the brand, and the market. When those two worlds meet, the result is a piece that does not just function: it communicates, differentiates, and leaves a lasting impression.
